Idolo (=reflection/idol) derives from the Greek word "Είδω", which means I see.
It can be refer to:
1. A reflection
2. An effigy
3. An illusion
4. A ghost
5. An idea
6. An Idol
7. Time
8. Me
9. You
It holds multiple meanings, as many as the images that appear when you look into the mirror.
Do you really see "you"?
It can be surprising how many “others” we carry inside. Different eyes will see different versions of "me".
Which "me" do I see? Is there one me behind them all?
As I watch myself in the mirror,I try to integrate the image I imagine of myself with the one reflected back to me.
At what point do I begin to see my ancestors, lovers, sisters, and forgotten souls?
idolo - a step closer
IDOLO (2018-2020), is a poetic video installation and performance that explores the nature of reflection, identity, and perception.
Created by Despoina Filippidou & Paulina Szczęsna, the project unfolds across three immersive stations — each offering a different encounter with the self.
Drawing from architecture, mime, and devised theatre, IDOLO blends video, construction, sound, and the body into a surreal and intimate experience.
Inspired by the Greek word "Εἴδω" (“I see”), IDOLO invites the viewer to question:
Who do I reflect? What do I see when I look in the mirror?
idolo - now I can see
