An ongoing research on the Square - how this transforms from a geometrical shape into rhythm, dynamic, movement, space, construction even sound. From the world of design into the world of performance.

________

During my training, square seemed to be a very important tool in my creativity; and keeps

re-appearing in my everyday life, through the modern cities and life which are “perfectly” fitted into boxes…

thoughts...

In design, we often use a square as a point of departure; we simplify an idea/an image by squaring it first on paper. As we carry on, the interior angles of the square, from 90 degrees slowly curve and become smoother; more elements are added in the drawing. All changes are happening so that the original idea can take the final form. In the end the creator gives totally freedom to her/his hand.

In modern life things feels a bit different. While we have adopted the principles of design for the sake of simplicity and efficiency, instead of loosen up, as we carry on, we tend to hold tight on the strong shape of square; keeping the sharp edges and not giving much freedom to express our desires. Everything takes the shape of square literally and figuratively speaking. Fashion, devices, food, jobs, economy, relationships, travelling, love (!).

How can we give some freedom in those desires?
